Bringing Hygge Into Your Life

I’m quite sure that you will have heard about the Danish concept of hygge (pronounced hoogah) all about how to live well. I really recommend picking up a copy of The Little Book of Hygge if you’re interested in this sort of thing. I’m not big on following trends, but my love of all things focused on cosiness just resonated with me when I heard about hygge.  It just made so much sense to me.

Hygge is about relishing the simple things in life and taking a step back from the everyday craziness that life constantly throws at us.  It is not about perfection or having a clear vision but more about loving what you already have in your life and finding comfort and balance in life.

With some trends it means that you have to spend a fortune to get on board with them, but not with hygge.

Here are 15 ways that you can embrace the comfort and feel fabulous on a budget:

Get Out In Nature

Hygge isn’t all about sitting around and laying under a blanket by a roaring fire. Sometimes we just need to wrap up warm, go outside into nature, appreciate the views and let our checks turn rosy pink!

Light Some Candles

I don’t know about you but I absolutely dream the cold dark days of autumn and winter. They really don’t agree with me and I much prefer sunnier days. When the nights start to get longer I love to close the curtains, put the fire on and light some candles. There is just something so relaxing about subtle candlelight that makes me feel all cosy.

Eat Some Comfort Food

There is nothing better than a slow-cooked meal that you’ve had cooking for hours and fills the house with the most delicious smell. During the cooler months, I use my slow-cooker a few times every week and I love batch cooking comfort food such as stews and casseroles. Hygge is all about relaxing comforting home cooking.

Make A Hot Drink

Hot drinks are an absolute must if you want to bring some more hygge into your life. Hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows is perfect!

Put Some Cosy Clothes On

What better way to feel cosy than to pop on some warm pajamas and fluffy socks and just curl up on the sofa.

Pamper Yourself

Taking some time out for yourself is so important and is ideal for creating a relaxing feel. Treating yourself to a face mask or painting your nails will have you feeling relaxed in no time.

Create A Relaxing Area In Your Home

There is nothing better than having a dedicated cosy space in the house. Something as simple as a comfortable chair, cushions and a blanket to snuggle up in are ideal. Add some photographs of loved ones, some fragrant candles and perhaps fairy lights and you have created your own hygge space.

Journal Your Feelings And Thoughts

Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be incredibly therapeutic and can help to clear your thoughts. Far too many times my head hits the pillow at night and life is played out in my head meaning I can struggle to fall asleep. Getting everything down on paper is one of the things that I love these days and find it helps me to clear my head allowing me to sleep better thus allowing me to enjoy the simple things in life.

Are you embracing the cosiness of hygge?
